Too many CEOs have come into Apple with grand and complex plans that stretched Apples resources too far, and too fast. Look at E-World, Newton, Apple Workgroup servers, Pink, Apple's Hydra, etc. Yes, Apple is not in the best of conditions. What Jobs wants to do is regroup and ready for another fight. The company is no condition to take anyone on at this point. They've bandaged the wounds and stopped the bleeding for the time. Now they have to carefully choose their allies, and pick their battle wisely. The Apple snail campaign is not going to topple intel overnight. But it stirs up interest in the product, and hopefully will generate sales to build a stronger Apple. You talk about people on this thread constantly ranting about user-loyalty. I think they are beyond that now. I have not heard that used in an argument in months! What they are talking about now are: -Newer faster machines and newer hardware advances that show even faster, cheaper, competitive machines in the near future -A leaner company that's finally making a profit -Inventory being moved through a streamlined pipeline -Rays of positive news shining through a sea of negative press that may build momentum for the company's PR -Software innovations that show potential opening new markets And not all of it is pro-Mac There are concerns about Merced, Alpha and Strong ARM. Discussions that focus on their strengths and weaknesses in relation to the PowerPC. Alternative OS technologies that may complement or compete with the Mac like Unix, Be, NT, and COS. This thread is definitely not a cheerleading section. Twister! Back me up here! And people like Alomex are always busy keeping everyone focused on some verys serious issues and arguments. Every now and then on days like today when the stock goes up 11/16ths, some of them feel really good about gloating that they bought at 14. I think they deserve that after being trodden for the past few years. (now stepping down from soapbox) Bill_H

Bill Jackson: I agree with you. I don't think Jobs is the one for this job. I've mentioned it a number of months ago. I think he's been very lucky. He's run businesses that did not make money but he comes out smelling like a rose. I believe the climate was invigorated when he came back. You know, one of the old garage house gang coming back to lead the troops. The snail commercial is a good one but in this case the snail is Jobs and the baby steps he is taking to make Apple profitable. He is not a good market man. Apple needs a super market man. Enough said. Ed
