>>The New Testament does not even touch on the subject.<<

What about Matt 23:23, where Jesus says "these are the things you should have done without neglecting the others" (either "these" or "others" seems to me to refer to tithing).

Dear Bob:

I know that I am not going to answer all your questions, that said, let me continue.

Don't think of tithing as a trade with God, and don't think of yourself as being required to come up with 10% or 50% or any other percent. Take the attitude that God is responsible for everything you have. What we have with God goes far beyond a business arrangement( and by my saying some of this don't even think I feel you are not of the same mind, brother in the Lord )

When we were purchased at calvary God purchased all of us, he purchased all of our future earnings, our future works, our future period. He purchased our eternity.

The biggest problem the way I see it is that in thinking we give him 10% that leaves us with the 90 % leftover that is ours. When God gave us his son he gave us 100% of what He has, and He did not withhold anything. When He gave us Christ He emptied heaven of it's most precious, jewel.

You are so correct when you say that we are set free from the law of sin and death; you are so correct. You are so correct when you say that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

So the obvious question is does Christ condemn us when we don't tithe; let me flip that around;; will tithing, to an unsaved person save him or justify that person in God's eyes. Both are ridiculous questions, and equally so!

Why tithe? Does God need the money? God wants us to tithe for what it will do for us. He wants us to pray and worship and commune with Him for what it will do for us, not Him. He has 10,000 angels praising and worshiping Him constantly, He does'nt need our praise, we need to praise Him. He does'nt need our prayers but we sure need to pray.He does'nt need our study, our songs, our service, our preaching , our teaching ect. but we sure do. Amen.

I will say this a million times; the greatest benefit to giving, and tithing, and offering is not financial, but spiritual. The greatest blessing is in the spirit man; whatever benefit we receive financially ( and that can be great at times )is
inconsequential compared to the spiritual blessing.

In Christ..gregor
