I don't know if the person has had any gender adjusting surgeries. I think by the approved language the person is properly described as a "transgender woman", implying the person was born a man and is now identifying as a woman. The newscasters often referred to the person as "she", but I'm not sure when society voted that a person born as a man, and now identifying themself to be a woman is a "she" as opposed to an effeminate "he". It seems to me (but I'm not 100% sure) that a "transgender woman" is a person who was born a man, but has had various chemical treatments (something called puberty blockers, hormone treatment, etc.) and also had their genetalia surgically modified to have women's parts rather than men's parts. A person who has not had modifying surgery but "identifies" as the opposite sex seems - to me - to be properly identified as the sex which corresponds to their existing genitalia, but they are a masculine woman or an effeminate man. Call this type of person "transgender" anything is just a cause for confusion. I think their gender description should match their physical body, and their mental state is separate from their gender. A trans woman is a man who acts like a lady, but he's still a man. I don't quite understand the logic of another conclusion. Perhaps the trans woman (who I think is a man) wants to be treated like a lady, referred to as "she" and receive external confirmation that he is a woman, but those actions are taken just to make the trans woman (who is a man) happy, not because the trans woman is actually a woman. We've got one trans person regularly in our life. The person is great! Wonderful personality, and enjoy seeing the person each time we see the person. And I get it that the trans thing makes the referential pronouns problematic (I don't want to upset the trans person by referring to the person as "him"). However, this person has never told me their pronouns, or discussed anything transgender with our family, ever! This topic comes up often with heterosexual white liberals who are concerned with the proper way to refer to trans individuals, but the only actual trans individual that I know has never raised the subject. Good luck figuring out the rest!
