And only 3 days ago I heard some idiot with 5 figure followers on twitter say that the risk is only in the short term because the long term stocks go up. He deleted the tweet after we made so much fun of him, but we have the screen capture.

There are structural reasons that SPX goes up. But it is also true that as far as actively managed funds go, it is pretty good and uses rules for both TA and FA. BTW, another BS that marketing people feed the public is that owning SPY is passive investing or that it has no fund managers and so on.

You can beat SPY in several ways, but one of the best is to follow their exactly criteria but reweight it either in sector neutral or based on ROIC (or both since the latter is a bit hard to do if you have too much to invest).
