I recall that Soviet scientists had been using, since the fifties?, infra-red radiation of certain frequencies (in the low end of the microwave spectrum) to enable them to obtain enriched uranium-235 from a mixture of uranium hexafluorides. Apparently the uranium to fluorine bond is relatively labile. This process was used in addition to the regular diffusion process.
