It's not even close. It's like 1,000,000,000 times more made up falsehoods about other country tariffs than I've ever seen in my career from any other administration. I can also see how all the people who have been fed this on podcasts, talk radio, cable news, and social media feeds have bought it hook, line, and sinker. It's because they don't know the truth, and it's too complex to track down and understand. It's really the most regressive tax in the history of America. It's how they plan to make the extension of the 2017 tax cuts happen. 99% of the tariffs will go away in Jan. 2029. Bank on it. That's another reason why companies aren't going to move much back here. It will turn back the other way on a dime. 99% of the products that are imported will still be imported. There are reasons this stuff is not made here. In 1955, 55% of the jobs in the US were manufacturing jobs. They dropped in a steady, linear manner over the next 60-years to less than 10%. Productivity increases account for probably 3/4 of those job losses. Automation, robots, AI, software, etc. In 1910, 40% of Americans worked on farms. 70-years later, 2% of Americans worked on farms. Nobody thought those jobs were coming back. They were lost due to increases in productivity. Why people think this doesn't apply to manufacturing jobs is mind-boggling. One thing these new tariffs will incentivize is smuggling and fraud. Stuff that's made in China or Vietnam will be shipped to some country with 10% tariffs, saving 36% to 44% or more, and then shipped to the US after it was magically made in that 3rd country by packaging it or putting it in a shipping carton. This has been happening in Taiwan for almost a decade now, and there is now opportunity to do it across the globe.
