OT

I had a car repair done and asked if I would get a discount for cash. They gave me a 10% discount ! Only because I insisted and the worked charged was expensive in both labor & parts. They had a lot of margin to play with . . .

OT:

Also safer if your card gets stolen. Debit card gets stolen and money used then you're fighting to get your money back. Credit card is stolen then the bank will likely freeze the card and charge-back and you go on about your day.

REALLY ???

I use a credit card rather than a debit card 99% of the time, but I was addressing Elroy's situation. It's much more secure than writing a check, where the check displays your account number and signature to the world, and the kid at the counter may not even know what a check is. FWIW, I don't even know where in the house my checks are hidden. It's been 5+ years since I've written one.
