Excellent answer and summary.
TSMC being the only global company able to make leading edge foundry eliminates the boom - bust in foundry because no foundry makes "too much" leading edge capacity in order to kill off competitors. Instead, TSMC makes what amount it thinks appropriate, and it all sells out in 2-4 minutes.

Who do you think will compete with TSMC? For awhile both Intel and Samsung were strong competitors.

I'd guess one of the Nation State wealth funds, perhaps the Saudi Wealth Fund, would invest in becoming a fab that they can cheaply power with both NG they flare now as well as solar... both very abundant. Who knows what is happening inside Mainland China... would they kneecap TSMC which they like to pretend is theirs?

Hi Elroy,

Yes better term.

Actually I like them for that reason.

Number one, it requires a srong balance sheet - preferably with no debt.

It has matured into an excellent group of dividend payers as well.

If one misses a cycle, it comes back much quicker than a commodity cycle.
