For us language dummies, please keep the conversation here in English.

My mom grew up speaking French until she went to school and learned English there. She and my aunt were bullied in SF schools for it. So... when she had me at age 22, she elected to not teach me French which I regret as I have a great mind for math and science but had to work hard to pass the language requirements. Also, I chose Spanish so I could communicate with the growing population from South of the US here in the Bay Area which really pissed off my whole family on my Mom's side! To this day, I made the correct choice as it makes my gardener (and resort workers in Baja when I went there on windsurfing or flying vacations) very happy when I make the effort to speak to him in his language.

It gets to be a pain to highlight and ask for a translation.

Gracias, Merci, xièxiè and Thanks.
