Another great post at Cymer's thread has a tour of IBM facilities and what they learned BTW I linked your last post to Cymer and have this one from them

Message 3562267

Even if rumour it stregthens each companies ability to perform and puts in a perspective that there is concern with the Asian markets which I feel is healthy - We do not want to get "overly exuberent" near term because long term is going to be a great ride...Didn't DPMI and CYMI sky rocket and then fall as fast - I really don't want that rollercoaster ride again cause these are core holdings with me...I wish them to grow a good healthy pace..(IMHO).... Anyways your commentary is insightly--keep up those great posts

Mr. Word I found the SPIE site and meeting agenda

spie.org

Many many discussions and meetings
Have you ever gotten their SPIE proceedings? (current vol 3331)
Would that be too technical to a laymans needs to understanding the "cogs and wheels" as well as new processes and future planning of semiequipment manufacturing -

Sometimes I learn things I never understand
but I'm learning to understand that.

James-Thanks for the update and for some of the rumors. I would like to add these comments to the conversation.

1. I beleive that the MOTO plant being built in Vorginia has committed to Canon for its steppers. It blew me away to see that.

2. I have not seen anything defnitive from INTC yet saying they were going with the Micrascan. This has been a rumor for close to a year. What I will state is that INTC was able to use a Micrascan (i-line) and somehow run it into the DUV region in one of their R&D labs. At least this is what 3rd party sources tell me.

3. At one time IBM was responsibly for almost all Micrascans that were in the field. Whatever they didn't have, SEMATECH was getting. IBM was an original user of the Micrascan and actually had an equity position in SVGL to ensure continued availability of those units. The majority were i-line system and of the older generation. They do have a step and scan or two, I believe. I would expect them to be SVGL's best customer. Funny thing though, IBM sold its stake back to SVGL for cash and Micrascan equipment.

4. At INTC, please do not count out Nikon. Even with the laser issues, which might cost them the business there, they are not dead and ASMLF is looking real good for the AZ facilities.

Only time will tell. As a lithographer you know that optical lithography dies off at 1.0u, remember that rumor???<GGGG>

Glad you made it to SPIE. I look forward to you publishing all the proceedings here. Let's see, 3-5 thick proceedings(depending on which conferences you attended) with hundreds of pages per proceeding should take you about a year to post. just in time for next year's conference!!<GGGG>
