Janice, not be insulting but that was a long time ago. :-) My cousin, had very poor high school transcripts and last year started at an Ivy league school. My uncle is very elite. He gets personal tutors for every subject. They live in Virginia. I'm not sure whether the geography part mattered, but trust me on this one. The wealth did. Michael

They admit their choices will be arbitrary in most instances. They say that they are looking for a "diverse" student body, but there is a lot of affirmative action based on their particular feelings about race, socioeconomic level, geographic distribution, etc. Essentially you can get in by being a legacy, an athlete, a favored minority group or by having written a very unusual essay. And, of course by making a massive donation to the school (probably 6 figures). I know of one such instance. Otherwise, it's a crap shoot, and they admit it. Jack
