CPU's ..Intel PII processors....interesting reading from the PII forum... (spots, nice job on the table ) Note: this post is on a day Intel indicated a shortfall in revenues...newsgroups.intel.com >>From "PDI" Wed, 4 Mar 1998 17:43:17 -0800 Go ahead and be skeptical, it is a healthy thing to do. Talk to the distributors, read the trade magazines, and then look at the numbers for system sales vs processor sales vs AMD and Intel market shares. If AMD market share is going up and Cyrix, Intel and Centaur are remaining about the same, then who is giving up those sales. Actually, neither myself nor any of my partners have a preference for AMD over any other processor. We do however have a preference for the processor that the market wants to buy. We listen and respond to the market. If you take the time to go back through the archives of this newsgroup for the past year, you will find that my partner (Ken) put in a great deal of time and effort attempting to tell Intel that the market wasn't buying into their Pentium II scheme. Intel didn't listen. At recent Intel authorized dealer meetings, dealers tried to tell Intel the same thing. Intel didn't listen. Approximately 1 year ago we were shipping 100percent Intel processors. But, we listened to the market, became authorized AMD dealers and began shipping AMD processor based systems about 7 or 8 months ago. Today, we are shipping about 95% of our systems with AMD processors. We don't push it, we quote the systems with both processors as an option. The market chooses the AMD over the Intel, not us. Talking with other dealers around the country, we are seeing the exact same story. The market is not allowing Intel to force the transition to their proprietary Pentium II SEC packaging and Slot 1. As I said, my partner made a significant effort to get Intels attention on this matter over the past year. I guess that leaves us with nothing more than to say "We Told Them So".<<<
