len, Have you been able to access the Economist article about object-oriented databases online? Even after registering with the economist I cannot access the body of the article. I don't think its in their archive yet.

There are commercial Object Oriented DBs.
Check out Versant, Object Design, Poet, and
probably others.

These technologies are interesting, but my
own experience suggest that they will not
replace relational DB's.

I saw Chris Date a couple of years ago, when the Informix / Illustra deal was just getting underway.

He made a point about object databases: The demand is teensy.

Illustra may have been a commercial software product, but I never saw any ads in the classifieds for Illustra programmers in the major cities. So adding the "fabulous" Illustra object database to Informix was not likely to create a huge demand for the product.

I could not find the Economist article on Jasmine. Personally, I doubt that Jasmine will have a big impact, but since it is the Economist, it would be interesting if you might cut a few quotes and paste them here.
