marc... today was the sucker rally of life and amat managed a few 16ths, because... even this market doesn't believe we've hit the bottom... The essence of a market is of course that we all have differing opinions... and yours are therefore as valid as anybodies... and they are certainly uncompromizing.... so I wanted to aked u this... sitting at home by the fire on a cold day.... wondering how you're going to pay for college for your kids or the new boat, or for anything else, what do you say to yourself that would convince a doubter like me to buy AMAT at this level, because honestly, except for that fact its a well run company with a comanding position in an industry that's fraught with short and medium term trouble, I can't think of any... which is a pity because I've made more money on this stock that all the rest of my trading combined..

Marc,
I got a better idea. OK, the day after the largest semi company
preannounces, the market takes a dive. The next day, the
unemployment rate is the lowest it's been in 25 yrs. I say
all the companies in world should keep everyone employed,
but not sell anything or make any money. That way earnings would
go to zero,
unemployment will go to zero and the markets will go to
infinity! We'll all be infinitely rich and we will have achieved
NIRVANA.
This is the strangest market. After MOT's announcement and
the 310000 new jobs, I expected another big drop. Oh well I guess
I'll have to get used to the fact that whatever happens (besides SEA), my portfolio will only increase in value.

CD

He downgraded months ago, I believe in October, but I'd have to look to be sure. Compaq is now halted in after-hours; they just warned.
