I smelled a rat also, after the move down and recovery, I took myself out at $41.5, wish I had done a few days before nearer $44, happy to have the dry powder now. Can't say I thought it was being manipulated, but spotted the ride was over for now.
Regards,
Ed

>take a close look at the interday graph of altr on fri. up 2 plus points on decent volume. it then had institutional orders going thru one after the other. the price of stock was held up somehow above two. i read it as big guys bring up the price and then start dumping shares.<

You got a good point, ALTR certainly has the attention of the big boys. Anyone entering a new position should do so with care. Having said that I bought more at 40.875. Maybe a good play would be to sell on the upgrades and buy on the downgrades.

Personnaly, I'd rather be long in ALTR and take quick profits and then go short. However a collard position, short in stock long in calls does make sense now, for those so inclined. As far as cpq and intc, their news will move the stock but the fact is ALTR is *not* a PC stock. I look to news from the networkers for validation. I also think you'll see an increase in sales to europe soon.
