You sound like a very smart guy.....maybe you shouldnt buy any.
I was stupid enough to buy ballard sept 1995. Compared to what the price is today....it cost me pennies, so what would a smart guy like you do with all this money I have now?

I have happily joined the ballard "cult".....by the way where is sid,
or are you sid?

mike

Nobody sold me on buying this stock, I made up my own mind and the risks were substantially higher at the time I bought into the IPO. You have done a wonderful job of identifying the risks but who said there were no risks here? There is a difference between investing blind and being willing to take a risk. I advise everyone to do their own due diligence and if you don't like the risks, don't buy. This thread has identified all the risks at one time or another, I don't think you need to be lecturing people who are willling to risk their money on this concept. We've seen lots of up AND downs but the ones who weren't comfortable eventually got out. Those who were are in and better off for it, so far. There are no guarantees here or in ANY stock, I think most here understand that.

I think it's important to pay attention to the issues you raise. Anybody who takes one look at the PE (now 359) can tell pretty quickly that there is risk here.

One point you didn't mention -- I've read that the stationary power market for fuel cells is potentially BIGGER than the market for auto engines, so even if fuel cells don't power autos, the market is still huge. I also think that many users of stationary fuel cells would be willing to pay a premium for quiet, clean power. Sail boat owners, for example.

Hello there Ballard Fans

A couple of things I would like to bring to your attention regarding Ballard.

1. Ballard isn't the only game in town? For example, GM, Toyota, and United Technologies are not exactly corporate unknowns. All of these companies have inferred that they are as far advanced as Ballard - ie GM (See GM's press announcements).

2. Even if fuel cells go commercial by the year 2004 to 2010 who is to say Ballard will be king of the day?

3. In light of the fact that there are other companies as dedicated to the development of fuel cell technology. Why not check out United Technologies and get the fuel cell exposure for a fraction of the value attributed to Ballard (re: $3.5 billion)?

4. Finally, don't forget it is not a profit until you take it. Lets not forget about what happened to those who supported the Bre-X stock and got burned in the end. Due diligence is the key and valuation.

5. Ballard has far surpassed the one-year target of Dean Witter and Midland and you should keep in mind that their target prices were created by making assumptions that have no real support at this time - i.e. 1) that fuel cells will be commercial and that the internal combustion engine will not make significant advances. 2) Ballard will be a top dog vs. the likes of GM, Toyota and United Technology etc. 3) That consumers will want fuel cell vehicles in spite of hassle, operating uncertainties. 4) That the arrangement between Ballard, Ford and Benz will at the end of the day provide a split of possible profits that is not altogether clear (I believe).

*Remember - A "hold" is to be read as a sell according to broker insiders. Dean Witter: when will Midland join with the hold? (I bet really soon!)

**Also - If you really believe in the fuel cell, why not take the profit from Ballard and buy platinum futures or stocks.

P.S. Has anyone heard of any insider trading?????
