Just a interesting article.

Internet rapidly overtaking telephone traffic, MIT scholar finds

However, the major Bell regional telephone companies use a 20-year depreciation schedule for switches and other major capital investments. So they will still have billions of dollars on their books invested in equipment that will be out of date.

Nice review Pat; last time I talked to NN Investor Relations hey told me that NN is doing research on 150 and 500 Gb/s platforms that ought to be able to better handle the Internet telephony onslaught that Mike Assad's article is referring to,

Look at what happened to Ascend and their GRF switch. I also think NN is ahead with SS7 which Ascend admitted it was working on but didn't have as yet.

Pat, I realize you may have covered this in earlier post elsewhere, even so could you please elaborate or point me in the right direction

Thanks in advance

some interesting facts from the Financial Post (Canada)
In the march 12 issue there is an article on ATM it contains a pie chart of global market share in ATM .
The leader is Newbridge with 25% , next Cisco/Stratacom with 20 % and N. Telecomm with 20% , Fore 10% and Lucent has only 5% of the market.
It seems to me that Lucent or Northern Telecomm could gain marketshare very quickly by buying Newbridge .
The article explains that it is tough to break into ATM unless you
have a proven track record in it , major network operators want to buy only from suppliers they know and trust .
As this is the technology for all WAN in the future , Lucent surely wants to break into the market .
