John- How do you interpret Metcalfe's complaint? One slightly
negative (for GIC) interpretation, would be that until the Telcos come
out firing with ADSL, the cable companies won't be forced to act aggresively. The somewhat more positive spin would be that though cable is slow, they will eventually be first to market since the Telco's aren't budging so far. On the other hand, if Metcalfe is right, that by the end of the year the Telco Monopolies will fall, I see that as good news to get a fire under Cable Companies.

John, More Telco R.I.P. on this link

freedomforum.org

The cable companies are being handed a golden opportunity here. It is my earnest and ongoing desire that they eat the telcos alive and that we GIC investor become as rich as Croesus. I believe you're right about the Apple box, No cable, no way. My only point about competition is that ultimately GIC will face a big test once the large computer manufacturers see a digital convergence device whose configuration is winning market share. I suspect IBM, CPQ, DELL, etc., etc. have people working in the area right now. IMHO a whole lot of people want a piece of this set top, $500 digital convergence gizmo (or whatever you want to call it) action. For now GIC is "the firstust with mostust". The Sony alliance then becomes key for GIC.
I want to say more about the Sony deal but later for that.

BTW do you have telco shorts picked out?

Haved enjoyed your posts to the max.
