...The company [Microsoft] has committed significant resources so that Java developers have the option of taking advantage of Windows features when writing software using the Java language.

"We will continue to listen to our customers and provide them the tools they need to write great software using the Java language," added Tod Nielsen, General Manager for Microsoft's Developer Relations Group/Platform Marketing.

I guess they will never, ever tire of adding the word language immediately after any mention of Java. Microsoft isn't worried about any language, not one. What they are worried about is the component technology and the components and services which seem to be popping up like mushrooms in a broad range of application spaces. This is only the beginning, it can take a couple of years to put together large applications and this momentum is going to continue.

David:

You're right. A couple of phrases did not get must the truth police at MSFT:

Microsoft has been in the forefront of helping developers use our version of the Java programming language to write cutting-edge Windows applications and none others.

Any way that's why I still believe BORL's JAVA window presents a good opportunity for the company and for success.

(But I will thank MSFT for continuing to beat EPS expectations!!! And to be honest the more I delve into some of MSFT's VC++, MFC, COM et al I do actually like some of their stuff... Just call me a newbie who has not tested the difficulties of actually programming in a real world environment!

JAVA on the other hand rocks all way round - difficult, easy stuff everything is very good - studying and real-world wise. One day the MPU's will handle the code faster...

Besides for the foreseeable future one should never forget an installed base of millions of Windows computers.)
