Tom, <I read NT5 slipped to Q2 '99 (recent InfoWorld).> This is just a guess on InfoWorld's part. According to Microsoft no firm date has been set. What they do say is that beta II is suppose to be released in Q2 of this year and that they expect this to be the last beta version (note: the first beta version shipped in September 97). How long is takes from the time they ship beta II until the final release is anyone's guess. Even MSFT doesn't want to speculate because they say a lot will depend on the feedback they receive. Obviously, NT5 is not coming out in June of this year....but Q2 99 may be too pessimistic. Here is the actual info from a speech given by Jim Allchin (MS Senior Vice President) on March 25, 1998. Note: the following was given at the beginning of the article from which the information bellow was extracted. "[Due to the varying sound quality and subject matter of tapes, the information in this transcript may contain inaccuracies.]"In terms of an actual time line, I mentioned that Windows 98, second quarter of this year. Windows NT 5 is on a hard target. It is to produce the second beta and beta II in the second quarter of this year, and we will determine when we ship given the feedback. We have our own internal target date, but it's essentially going to be based on feedback. We don't expect another beta after this -- (inaudible) -- complaints and the CD that you get here at the conference is not beta II yet. We've got a little bit more work to do, but you'll see the facility is pretty good in it and a lot more features, like the intelli-mirroring -- (inaudible) -- are all in it. We just have a lot of other -- (inaudible) -- to fix. But when it is beta II, we'll be -- (inaudible) -- complaints and taking feedback for -- (inaudible) -- to fix it the rest of the way, and then the customers will tell us when it's ready to ship. Good luck to all, FF
