Yellow Box standard on Win98 is tremendous news ! Well for the time being... tremendous rumor ! Does anyone knows of the release date of win98 ? Rhapsody will have a huge impact on the stock share. It will be Apple weapon to gain back market share. So far, everybody agrees of its superior qualities to other OS. If it is widely distributed, there is good rationale it will become a success. However, I can't see anyone able to relate this to the financial figures for Apple. Will Apple be able to make money as a Rhapsody licenser ? Will Mac users loose any incentive to buy a Powerpc-based machines ? Will Apple be able to sell PowerPC machine at equivalent prices of PC compatible one ? Will Rhapsody on both machines be comparable in terms of performance ? Will Apple be able to sell software as Microsoft did, to leverage its OS superiority ? Theese are the questions that will arrive in the next months. If we can answer them before anyone else, we will make money on this stock. (actually, make money once more ;-))

According to this source, Windows 98 and the first service pack for Windows NT 5.0 will ship with Yellow Box APIs! In the past there have been talks of a Yellow Box for NT, but nothing final. Apparently, the inclusion of the Yellow Box APIs in Windows 98 and NT 5.0 will be more of a Microsoft project, than an Apple one.

Leonardo,

Do you know whether Apple has the right to license Yellow Box technology and thus participate in revenues generated by Win 98 and NT? TIA

Sam
