Slob, you may have forgotten Symbios

With the merger Adaptec is getting a huge asset of engineering talent. I am surprised that this thread is not giving enough credit to the brilliant move ADPT made with this acquisition. I would like to see some discussion on the prospects of the combined corporation.
IMHO the impact is far beyond the combined sales. Given time to coalesce, this company is dynamite. I believe it is likely to double in price within 12 months.

Slob, I've always liked the way you think - and applaud the idea of
checking the company job pages !

I went and checked up, and what I found I think suggests a slightly
different interpretation.

Overall they seem to have a small number of positions open in their
Milpitas facility, but there are a high-ish proportion of techies
spread across a number of different "functions".

You are correct in that the biggest single number of open positions IS
in the area of operations, but at least one of these also is a techie,
and of the remaining 5, 3 seem to be "project management" types
associated with new product development, or production handover -
i.e. the sort of people you need to co-ordinate engineering
activities up to and at the point where a product is about to go into manufacture.

My read of the situation therefore is that they have a number of new
product opportunities, have the engineering resources, but are lacking
the co-ordinators to make this aspect of the development process work
efficiently. In other words they are looking to develop/release
more products with the resources that they do have.

I am also in agreement with gda, who suggested that Symbios would
likely bring additional technical resources. My read overall is
that until they have a chance to completely review the personnel
make-up of the two organisations, they are unlikely to blindly
recruit further (expensive) technical staff. However, good project
managers are worth their weight in gold, especially when you are
integrating two corporate cultures and you need to enforce a
consistant development process across multiple sites. e.g. you might
logically assign your senior staff to key projects in the new
organisation, and recruit to replace further down.

FYI - I too am wondering about the product roadmap. SCSI will be a
key market for some time, but it isn't necessarily going to generate
the same earnings growth as it has in the past. ATM hasn't yet
taken off (and may not). The "Read Channel" stuff could be key (will
probably drive ADPT IC's into key positions in all sorts of products)
but how far away are products based on this ? Hum.......

p.s. What is SOES trading ?
