By the trooper's account (clearly self-serving, and so possibly not true) that's pretty much what he DID say.

But c'mon: you're at a reception, someone comes over and tells you the (male) guest of honor, an important guy whom you don't know, wants to meet you in a hotel room. Do you not immediately think: WHY? Do you, for that matter, not simply ASK?

I certainly would.

I thought "assault" requires some form of touching?
Bill never touched Paula. Can you assault someone with words if the words are not threatening?

Showing Paula his bent pepperoni would be classified as indecent exposure, not assault.
