doug - **OT** a true Japanese implosion could mean no worse than a Great Depression II

Within Japan, maybe. In the US, probably not. We in the US tend to forget that while we wallowed through the Great Depression making the structural changes needed to make us the world economic power, the rest of the world was largely continuing on with life. Not that they didn't suffer some, but to generally nowhere near the same extent. Nonetheless, if Japan implodes, we will certainly have an unpleasant time of it for a while. But a Great Depression II?

Doug, Clark,

the part about Japan that I have not figured out yet is if Japan goes into the great depression, whether that is good or bad for the US, or even the rest of Asia?

Afterall, what is the strength of Japan that propelled them to the second largest economy? I can't think of anything that all the other Asian knock-off artists can't duplicate in due time.
