Duncan, Betty, All,

I gotta say here that if anybody got an E-ticket ride from the media it was President Bush. Remember son Neil and the savings and loan mess just before we went to the gulf? His state of residence with reference to his taxes received no more play than is President Clinton's, at least to my memory, and I read a lot.

I think it notable that none of the influential Republicans came forward to endorse Bush's reelection in 1992, and certainly not Presidents Reagan, Ford, or Nixon. If that were not sufficient, candid (and I mean candid as in unposed) camera shots of the expressions on the collective Republican faces said as much. To get an idea of the public impact of these facial expressions, it would help to remember the facial expression of California's Governor Wilson, as captured at the moment of his seeing former Vice-President Spiro Agnew at President Nixon's funeral.
