Paul, re: Watch for a Compaq celeron Announcement, Isn't this a Compaq Celeron announcement? From their press release of 4/15. Also, PC Mag already posted a review on the net!

New Deskpro Models Feature Innovative Technologies

The new Deskpro EP and EN Series will incorporate the latest industry-standard technologies announced today by Intel. This includes the new 350 MHz and 400 MHz Pentium II processors, Intel 440BX AGP(2) set (supporting 66 MHz and 100 MHz Front Side Bus [FSB]), and a robust set of manageability technologies, creating the industry's most highly manageable and powerful desktops. Compaq also announced support for the new Intel 440EX AGPset and the new Intel Celeron processor.

Intel Investors - Today, Intel began to REAP the Benefits of its aggressive investment strategy.

Broadcom (BRKM) went public with an IPO today and closed at $53 5/8 after being as high as $70. The offering price was about $24, up from $12 (estimated earlier).

This has TWO things to do with Intel - First, Intel purchased a minority interest in Broadcom last year (or earlier). I'm not sure what that investment was but I'd guess that it is about 2% - just my guess.

Broadcom has 43.2 million outstanding shares, so 2% would give Intel
about 864,000 shares worth (at today's closing price of $53 5/8) $46.3 million. Again, this is my own estimate and may be slightly off.

This is an example of what is in store with Intel's INVESTMENT PORTFOLIO!

The second relevant point is the RECEPTION investors gave Broadcom - a manufacturer of integrated circuits used in Cable Modems and potentially Set Top boxes.

If this business does start to grow (and we all hope it does), Cable Modem access to the Internet will become more pervasive helping to to increase the bandwidth for Internet access. Again, this will be PLUS for Intel as the fast CPUS will not be throttled by slow inter-computer communications speeds.

I'm not aware of analysts factoring in Intel's technology portfolio into any future valuations of Intel. However, if Intel hits a few more Jack Pots like Broadcom - with long term growth potential - Intel may turn into a Mini Berkshire Hathaway (sort of a holding company for W. Buffett and investors) of the High Tech sector.
