Spots:

I'll decide for you. Datek's execution is the very best and their personal service is the very worst.

The cost of the few mistakes and inconveniences quantifies out, for me, at $5 per trade, making a total commission of $15 for excellent, immediate execution, availability of shorts, immediate portfolio updates et cetera.

It's a good deal. We just can't look for something from them that they have shown they will not provide - it's like asking my wife to speak logically.

Once, when I had a problem of monetary substance, I didn't even bother to phone, but sent off a certified letter, return receipt requested, and got an immediate response.

Don't ask them to talk to you, they are a humble robot. I'm not much of a talker myself, so I'm sympathetic to their dysfunction.

New to Datek Questions

Hello Spots,

Hoped you might help out a new user.

What is the blue button with an i inside that I see on many of the screens? If I click on it, I get a secure and unsecure download message. Haven't DLed it yet. Can you explain what I would be downloading and why I should?

Canceling a placed but unfilled order. Could you give me a step by step on how to accomplish this? How do I know the cancel took?

Thanks

Networm

unequivocally ambivalent

Nice phrase! When I find a broker who will provide the ability to trade Island AMONG the other choices (SOES, select market-makers, Instinet ...) for @$10/trade and offers integrated (and reliable) Level II for a reasonable charge I will be even more ambivalent. (g) 'Till then I continue to vacillate between waiting for the often promised but seldom seen Datek Level II and giving one of the $20/trade "super-trader" brokers offering Level II a try. Between this crap and taxes, who has time to trade?
