New to thread and stock... I think your comments are interesting in light of company's buy back. Is there a connection between the trading you describe and the company's buyback?

I believe they felt that 15 5/8's was the best price to get what they needed. Notice that when the bid dropped to 15 7/16 other market makers stayed on the bid and there was much less selling.
