Rocky,

>>The Teac HiFD drive was installed in a Sony Vaio system, but Biancrosso declined to demonstrate it and deferred all questions to senior executives.<<

Rocky, here's an important part of the article that needs to be looked into...

<<But he conceded that "we're going to have to build this market." He vowed that, in a year or two, HiFD will equal Iomega's Zip drive penetration. It's a formidable task, given Zip's installed base of more than 15 million users.>>

I think the approach that Sony and others need to take as related to market penetration is going after the OEM's. If the HiFD can replace the 1.44 MB floppy in OEM PC's, I believe that the Zip and the other portable disk drives will lose market share and fade away. The end user market is important, but not as important as the OEM markets.

As I stated in previously posting, I really believe that the HiFD is a major threat to IOM. Sony's backward compatibility with the 1.44 MB FD is a major feature of this product. I could not even venture a guess as to how many floppy disks are out there...why switch to the Zip when you can get better performance with the HiFD and backward compatibility at the same time?

Just my thoughts.
