Paul, Re: >"And here's why.<"

Bravo! Bravo! Knowledge replaces experience. Knowledge + experience gives one the insight you posses. Thank you for transferring that insight to this site.

Paul: And who...And what...And where?

I love it. The world could use more Techies that can talk to the rest of us. Right now, I'll just be thankful you're sharing with everyone on the SI thread.

I'll hang on to this for ongoing reference. You know, I try to say the same thing to family and friends but have never been able to give the presentation your pizzazz.

May the sun shine for all your little league games and practices.

Thanks! dmf

Paul, re >And here's why<

Bravo! I anticipated a great response when the question was asked earlier today. You have not disappointed me.

Paul,>>>where the contents are scanned into computers to generate bills of lading and invoices for the truckers to deliver to their customers.<<<

The trucks picking up the goods is only the beginning of a whole logistics and transportation supply chain that involves suppliers, manufacturers, wholesalers, retailers, distributors, warehouses, intermodal transport on barges, ocean going ships, railroads, airplanes, freight forwarders, brokers, international customs, port authorities, banks for letters of credit, funds transfer, gps for tracking and tracing and several other armies of networked computers and servers just to maintain trade, trasnportation and other economic data for Alan Greenspan and other central bankers to Analyze so they can manage the supply of money to ...and don't even go into all the federal, state, local and foreign governments and their requirements to......

You are right Paul, some of these people don't really have clue. Gee, I got my sub 1k computer and it surfs the net beautifully - who needs anything more.

Mary

<A lot of "analysts", who have recently purchased their first computer and finally got it to connect to the Internet, perceive the Internet and INTERNET ACCESS as THE ONLY use for PCs.
. . . >

Good point - brilliant even.

Wow, Paul.

Loved that post BIG TIME! There should always be a MIDI file of Led Zeppelin's South Bound Saurez playing as one reads your latest simple, but yet so deep and poignant barrages. :-)
Big and fat ol' common sense is usually/surprisingly a lot more beneficial than masterful intricate specialty.

On a separate note, I was reading yesterday about SQNT deciding to go with Digital on writing their next OS for Merced. They apparently are giving up on their Dynix. Is this true? And, do you think CPQ's takeover of DEC will threaten the development of DEC Unix? If so, what the heck is SQNT doing?

As always, appreciate any comments.

thanks

Paul Engel. Re: "...And here's why."

I cannot thank you enough for that tour de force. I wish they had a "post of the week" on SI. I would nominate this one.

This post should be required reading for every anal-yst, especially TK. After reading your insights, it makes me happy to be long on Intel, and confirms my belief that our patience will be rewarded.

Thanx again.

HL

Paul. Thanks. Great post. I never quite put it together like that and I am not an analyst with a first time computer. gg.
