Well, of course it depends on your perspective. Statistics tell many stories. Perception is reality in this market it seems. Of the four companies I chose for the chart, only one made money in that time frame.

- It wasn't Seagate, which reported a $128 million dollar loss last quarter;

- It wasn't WDC, which lost $45 million;

- It wasn't Quantum, which lost millions two quarters ago and only gained $2.8 million last quarter.

There's only one left--Adaptec--which netted $23 million last quarter and $37 million (before one-time charges) the previous quarter.

Obvious short in December is right. But if it was so obvious, what happened? Adaptec was perceived as a consistent winner. It stunned just about everyone in January. If you read archives, take a look at the recommendations for Adaptec before January 8th. I think we are living with a new reality with Adaptec and a new perception.
