>>Requires 16 bit color depth. 640 X 480 screen resolution is recommended. Reset your computer configuration and then restart the game.<<

Perhaps multiple resolutions are supported but none greater than 640 x 480. The game may appear too small at higher resolutions.

What resolution are you using now? Even if you were able to play the game at a higher resolution than recommended it may not be advisable.

If you are not familiar with changing resolutions:

Assuming Win95
Go to Start then Control Panel then double click Display then Settings.

This screen will vary depending on your version of Win95 and your video drivers. You should be careful here if you do not know what you are doing (If you choose a setting that is incompatible with your monitor you may experience a lock up or the inability to see your screen). Note the existing settings so you can put them back where they were. You can change the resolution and color depth here. Some video driver configurations offer a test option (best option). You can change the settings and then test. It will show you the new setup for several seconds and then revert. If everything looks ok you can then click ok? or apply? Some machines will require a reboot for settings to take and some will change them without a reboot.

ps

It can be somewhat risky installing software on a computer that was designed for a different operating system (older version of Windows)

Welcome to the thread Ann!
Question: Is there a way I can bypass this box in order to startup the game??
i think so, yes. Just change the color depth to 16. I guess, it has nothing to do with the screen resolution. It is exactly like the error message told you: The 16 color resolution is required not the screen resolution of 640x480. Some programs (older ones) just cant handle more than 16 colors.

To change the color depth you must go to the 'Display Properties' window, which pops up when you right click somewhere on your desktop and select 'Properties' in the pop up menu.
In The 'Display Properties' window select the 'Settings' panel and there in the lower left corner you'll find the 'Color' depth scroll bar. Change it to 16 colors and see if that helps.

OOPs, you are using Win95?
