More on Inventory Bloat

Check out this link. They are admitting the inventory bloat.
However, notice that their financial statements do not reveal any inventory bloat.

Dell to expose rip-off artists.

Ref: Server rip-offs

Now we hear CPQ management saying that they never expect their server margins to return to the levels of Q1-98. CPQ is in serious trouble IMO. What will they be saying next?

Jim:

I recall posting an article here that I found not too long ago where they quoted M.Dell saying that he would expose the price gouging by competitors in the server and other products. So obviously this being the case CPQ and others like them would not be able to continue ripping off the unsuspecting corporate customers like they used to.

Jim, I think it is time to look at the financial statements of Vanstar, Ingram, and the other channel dealers for inventory levels.

I think that this is clearly the key to unraveling the story. I also think it is interesting to note that some of these channel members are planning to build computers to order themselves. How will CPQ react to a channel member who is also a competitor?

TTFN,
CTC

>>If you take a look at the revenue reported in Q1-98, you will note that it is higher
than the revenue reported in Q4-97.>>

I find much of what you say intriguing, but you lose me with this statement. Compaq reported $7.3 billion in revenues in Q4 and $5.7 billion in Q1 1998. Could you clarify how you get "higher" revenue in Q1 than in Q4?
