Ed - Re: " the receivers for Datapoint intellectual property recently (1 or 2 ago?) sued Intel claiming infringement of computer based video conferencing patents" You like losers and corporate welfare - Punish the successful and give money to the incompetent losers! Datapoint tried to sue everybody with that phony suit, starting with PictureTel - and LOST! Read all about it! {============================} Thursday April 9, 7:32 pm Eastern Time RPT-PictureTel wins verdict in case ANDOVER, Mass., April 9 (Reuters) - PictureTel Corp. and Datapoint Corp said Thursday that a jury unanimously found in PictureTel's favor in a patent infringement suit brought by rival videoconferencing equipment maker Datapoint Corp. The verdict followed a month-long trial in Federal District Court in Dallas, Texas on a suit in which Datapoint alleged PictureTel infringed Datapoint's video conferencing patents. In a statement, Datapoint said it was considering appealing the verdict. ''Naturally, we are disappointed in the verdict and at this time we are considering our options on appeal,'' Gerald Agranoff, Datapoint's general counsel, said in its statement. In a separate statement, PictureTel said the 10-member jury unanimously agreed that the patent claims asserted against PictureTel were invalid. Datapoint had sought upwards of $200 million in its claim against PictureTel, which the jury denied in total, PictureTel said. It was unclear what impact the verdict would have on similar patent lawsuits Datapoint has filed against two other videoconference product makers -- Intel Corp. (INTC - news) and Compression Labs Inc., which merged into VTEL Corp. (VTEL - news) last year. ''We anticipate moving forward with those suits pending the results of any appeal,'' Datapoint spokeswoman Ilene Monahan said in a phone interview. {========================} Paul
