Good Guys Opens A WOW! With A/V Exposition Format - -May 14, 1998 By Jill Bilzi The Good Guys! has opened a WOW! Multimedia Superstore in Glendale, Calif., its third concept store with Tower Records and the first WOW! location to feature The Good Guys' new store format: Audio/Video Exposition. All future WOW! stores will feature the Audio/Video Exposition format, which displays consumer electronics in a home-like, interactive interior, complete with soft lighting and pastel colors. The Good Guys! is already in the process of converting its existing stores into the new Audio/Video Exposition concept. The Glendale WOW! boasts the first high-definition TV wall with digital TV capability and Surround Sound. The 40,000-square-foot store will have over 4,000 consumer electronics SKUs, including televisions, home and car audio, video, personal electronics, home and cellular telephones and computers. The WOW! will also carry books, CDs, videos, laserdiscs, DVDs and computer software as part of its partnership with Tower Records. In the car audio department, a new silver Mercedes SLK will be outfitted with a deluxe sound system for customers to hear. "We are taking two very successful concepts, WOW! and The Good Guys! Audio/Video Exposition and combining them for the very first time," said Robert Gunst, president/CEO of The Good Guys! The Good Guys! and Tower Records already teamed up on two other WOW! locations -- one in Las Vegas and the other in Long Beach, Calif., and will open two more WOW! stores in the fourth quarter of this year -- one in Laguna Hills, and the other in San Mateo, Calif. In June, The Good Guys! is still planning to roll out the controversial Divx format in its San Francisco Bay-area stores only, according to Brad Bramy, VP advertising for the 77-store chain. The Good Guys! will then follow Circuit City's lead and begin a chainwide rollout of the format in September."DVD is the hottest thing going right now," Bramy said. "We want to offer our customers both options in DVD players." twice.com
