I believe it's a matter of emphasis. Do I recognize that in the last twelve months we have had three highly publicized schoolhouse shootings perpetrated by youngsters? Yes. Does this trouble me greatly? Yes. Do I thus deduce that American society is in the toilet? No. Do I decide that the simplest solution is to remove guns from civilian hands? A qualified no. The qualification: The ban would have to be total. All non-Mil&Police guns would have to be efficiently rounded up and smelted. The we'd have to close our southern border with extreme prejudice. I'm talking Berlin Wall here, with cincertina wire and machine gun nests. Even then, it'll take time to disarm the bandits in our midst. But in time , that would certainly reduce the number of deaths by gun. Do I think this is the way to go? No. I think the problem isn't Guns, but Violence. I've already gone on record how I'd attack that issue. i think we've agreed to disagree on that one. Gun ownership isn't the problem imho. Our failure as a society to show violent criminals that we possess and implement a ruthless determination to punish them is our great weakness as Americans. This is curable, and it has very little to do with citizen gun ownership.
