Skippy, I can't get my copy and paste to work, but you referred to the bums you want to save. Ain't that sort of nasty and superior, and of a different species from those that you so easily condemn?

You appear to have such a heart, or seasoned soul, at times. Then you come out with sheer HATRED and VILANY. Shame. gsm

Sorry - philanthropy does not begin at home. If you are not out there helping others it is silly to expect others to. You can say you would do it, at some other time, in some other circumstances, but it is difficult to believe. Even for the very busy there are ways to participate, even with your children. The fact that you do not, for me, seriously undermines your entire argument.

And the people I know with more, are, for the most part, spending it on themselves. Do I think they would take up the cross and cure societies ills were our lame old government to quit trying- and they got ot keep all their money? Not bloody likely.

And for those of you who do wish to volunteer, call your local schools or park and rec department. Our schools here seem to profit greatly from the volunteer time of engineers who connect, repair and reconfigure a large variety of computer systems. Parks and Rec in our area has cleanup days when the whole family can go out and clean up a trail. There are planting days, when families can beautify the parks. And there is so much more. I urge all of you out there (even you 50 lurkers who actually wrote to FT!) to volunteer now, as locally as you like, and show the government it can all be done without them.
