I don't know about "tied", but all the ones I ever saw ( lots ) came with with an SBUS card which attaches to SCSI devices.

JCD: One of the best ways for you to get answers to your technology questions is to check the link, below. It takes you to an Adaptec web page with references to every area of technology Adaptec is working.

adaptec.com

As an example, with a simple search of Adaptec's home page on "fibre channel", in the 158 referenced documents you can get a sense of how Adaptec views Fibre Channel:

"Adaptec has long recognized that Fibre Channel will be key to future high-performance I/O systems. The company has been actively developing Fibre Channel products for over two years. Beginning with base technology in the AICr-1160 high-performance integrated protocol ASIC, Adaptec has developed both host bus adapters and external RAID controllers that capitalize on this and other Adaptec technologies."

If you have any concerns that Adaptec is missing the technology train in the bandwidth business, sell the remaining half of your position in the company. But I'm holding mine. I do not think my confidence in a stock price recovery is misplaced.

This thread has discussed Adaptec and technology. Perhaps you missed those discussions. Fibre Channel, SCSI, DVB, ATM, 1394 have all been discussed to some extent over the past 3-4 months. And I am all for more of the same.

The stock price? You can offer as good a guess as any of us about these doldrums. Many, many possible explanations have been offered here. There is no simple, single answer, but the institutional herd instinct that brought us here will take us back, I believe. It won't be as fast, though. Although I do remember when the stock price was hovering around 20/21 several years ago, it shot up 10-12 points in one day. On good news, of course.

Jonathan,

I'd respond in detail to your list, but I'm running out of time. I'm off for a trip to Tokyo, Frankfurt, Copenhagen, Tromso, San Francisco and then home again. All in a couple of weeks time! And I've entered the frenzied stage just before where there are all sorts of loose ends to take care of before I go. Like making sure everyone knows what to do while I'm gone :-)

More when I get back.

Thanks, Torben
