AMAT has some bad news too:

biz.yahoo.com

This may add to the generalizability of the sell-off tomorrow
across the semis and even possibly tech. On the heels of today,
it will be interesting. But everyone keep in mind that Speedfam
will have around $10 in cash. A guy on the Yahoo thread says his
broker sees $14ish. That seems extreme, but hard to see why Speedfam would not initiate a buyback. If it doesn't, then I would take it as an admission of a poor prognosis from the company.

Updating my SFAM vs. AMAT CMP revenue table, using the guidance in the
latest pre-announcement, I get the following:
(The news release last night didn't break out CMP vs. other products,
it just said $24 - $26 M corporate-wide, so my table below, for CMP,
just has < $24 M for CMP for lack of more detailed info.

SFAM 8/96 SFAM 11/96 SFAM 2/97 SFAM 5/97 SFAM 8/97 SFAM 11/97 SFAM 2/98 SFAM 5/98 guidance
$16.3M $16.8 M $22.5 M $25.2 M $30.7 M $34.7 M $28 M < $24 M
AMAT 1/98 AMAT 4/98 AMAT 4/98 bookings
$45-50 M $46 M $75 - 80 M
