Betty, In a word, yes. The referendum system is not universally loved--not even by the voters, however. For some time, California has been inundated with people who do not understand or appreciate the wisdom of referendum. With the exception of the misguided Bird Court and its resultant publicity, I doubt that the majority of voters give much thought or consideration to the California Judiciary or the political leanings of the people they vote into those offices.
