El,
I would like to point out that Intel also makes the alpha chip for DEC. Had to say something as I own a few INTC shares.

<< Compaq spokesman Jim Finlaw noted, however, that with the company's pending acquisition of Digital, which has a lineup of high-end servers and the technology behind Alpha, another 64-bit processor, Compaq would soon broaden its server line even in the absence of Merced. >>

Compaq didn't have to BUY Digital to market Alpha systems. Digital would have gladly re-badged an Alphaserver with a Compaq label or Samsung could have designed and built Compaq boxes. There is always a slim chance that the DEC shareholders could turn down the acquisition and those chances seem to be improving based on the phone calls shareholders are receiving from DEC board representatives and the second letter being sent out by Palmer. Should it be turned down who will be the first to approach DEC for 64 bit servers? Compaq? Dell? Gateway? HP? IBM?
