I never did fully understand the expression, but it looks like that's what you've made. I guess sow's ears are not the height of luxury.

I live in Portland, Oregon where the amount of freight traffic is truly astounding. Lots of wheat, containers, auto's. Union Pacific and Burlington Northern (plus Santa Fe and Southern Pacific nowadays).

Lately, I swear the west-bound inter-modals are sounding emptier than ever - the ground shakes less and the locomotives are just cruising along.

Probably my imagination.

Glad you posted. I'm always in the mood to hear about trains.
