Christine,
<< I guess one of them at this point would be--who are you to judge that you are a Christian, but someone else who also believes himself to be Christian, is not? or me to>>

I hold up the Bible as the standard for anyone who claims to be a Christian and have come to the conclusion that anyone who heeds the doctrine of Joseph Smith is blind to the truth.

Chris

Dear Christine,

Just been lurking for awhile now and got interested in the dialogue between you and Chris Land re: who's to judge if someone is a Christian or not.

To answer this question, the Bible proclaims to Christians to "Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all long-suffering and teaching." 2 Timothy 4:2

If someone teaches a different gospel from what Jesus Christ has taught, Christians are commanded to rebuke that person (to criticize sharply, to voice or convey disapproval).

The Bible also says: "always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; having a good conscience, that when they defame you as evildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed." 1 Peter 3:15-16.

What are Christians defending? The Hope that is in them which is the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Now, to why Mormons are not considered "Christians" as tested against the Word of God - the Bible. There are many in this world that profess to be Christians but not all are followers of Jesus Christ and His teachings. Just because they call themselves "Christian" does not mean they are. Why? because although they may use the same terminology, they do not always have the same meaning behind those words.

For example:

1. Mormons preach a different Jesus from the one taught in the Bible. They say he was married and that Jesus was the natural child of Adam and Mary.

"We say it was Jesus Christ who was married at Cana of Galilee" (Journal of Discourses, Vol. 2, P. 80). "When the Virgin Mary conceived the Child Jesus...He was not begotten by the Holy Ghost. And who is his Father? He is the first of the human family" (Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, pp. 50-51)

The Bible; the Word of God, teaches that Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary and conceived by the Holy Spirit. "she was found with child of the Holy Spirit." Matt 2:18.

2. Mormons preach a different Gospel.

The gospel to Mormonism is: "Faith, Repentance, Baptism, Receiving the Holy Spirit by laying on of hands, Morality, Loyalty, Tithing, Word of Wisdom, Duty Celestial Marriage (for eternity)" (LDS chart of Free Agency and Articles of Faith, No. 4)

The TRUE GOSPEL from the Bible proclaims: "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16

It's that simple - accept the free gift of God - Jesus Christ - and just believe in Him as your savior! Jesus has done the work for you, all you need to do is accept His free gift.

"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast." Ephesians 2:8-9

There are many other points that show why Mormonism is NOT Christianity but I will not bore you any longer. Investigate it for yourself. Read the teachings of Jesus Christ, try the 4 gospels - Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Test those who profess to be "Christians" against the Word of God and His Word will reveal the true followers of Christ.

Finally Christine, let me put it this way - if there was a poison out there that could hurt or kill your loved one, wouldn't you try to teach your loved one that the poison was not good for them or better yet keep it away from your loved one?

Jesus Loves You so much Christine, that he died for you - even though you did not ask Him to.

regards,
andretti
