Maurice,

The minority popularly suppressed around here is the taxpayer.

The same goes for India. Now they invented a new way to collect taxes: taxing wireless users.

techweb.com

India's tax department has been partly blamed for the cell phone slowdown after it demanded tax from cell phone users in an attempt to increase the number of tax payers in India. "We appreciate the government efforts to widen the tax base, but cell phone ownership is being isolated as a means to target potential taxpayers," said K Vijay Rao, executive director and CEO of Indian cell operator Escotel Mobile Communications.

They do it here, in the good ol' USA as well. The proportion of taxes to actual phone charges is increasing. At least on the phone bills the taxes are clearly visible. Another popular way to tax people is through the electric utilities utility bills. The utilities don't bother, or I guess may even be forbidden to show what percentage goes to taxes.
