Still waiting on my annual report. Does it indicate a meeting coming and where? I live in the Bay Area and like to attend these things when I can.

Seems like Japanese yen is going to strengthen services even though everyone only seems to think Ford and Catapillar are selling in Japan. Should be good for everyone if they can pull it off. Big if.

Here's today's CHKPF story:

Regards,

Mark

Offering Includes Unique Regional Service Option to Dramatically

Security Staff

Infonet Services Corp. Tuesday announced an agreement with Check Point Software Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq:CHKPF) to use Check Point FireWall-1 enterprise security solution in its new managed security service for Infonet customers worldwide.

Through this partnership, Infonet will provide comprehensive managed security services to protect its customers' intranets and LANs from unwanted intrusions when connecting to the Internet. This service will also provide Internet users with access to corporate data enabling secured extranets.

The Infonet Managed Firewall Service, based on Check Point's technology, provides organizations with the ability to define security policies that can be distributed across multiple gateways and are managed remotely by Infonet's Network Security Center. The service ensures that any intranet entry can be protected throughout Infonet's network without limitation.

"Check Point's network security technology offers comprehensive capabilities for our customers," stated Jean-Noel Moneton, vice president, Advanced Services, Infonet Services.

"Our regional service option, in which one firewall node is dedicated to one customer, allows Infonet to protect multiple connections and sites accessing the Internet through one regional access point, making it extremely attractive in terms of price and performance," he commented.

Infonet's Managed Firewall Service provides the comprehensive performance of a full-fledged, customer-premised firewall for a fraction of the price. "Additionally, thanks to this service, secured extranets now become a reality with Infonet," added Moneton.

"We are pleased to be selected by Infonet Services to provide Check Point's world-class enterprise security capabilities to the customers of Infonet's worldwide network," stated Asheem Chandna, vice president of business development at Check Point Software Technologies. "Infonet's regional approach to managed services is perfectly targeted to multinational businesses," he concluded.

According to Mark Winther, group vice president of Worldwide Telecommunications for IDC, Infonet is not looking to the future in a rear view mirror. "Their offering represents real progress toward offering in-network security, a major trend that IDC sees for the future in security services," Winther stated.

"Infonet is a very innovative company providing its customers with the ability to do E-Commerce and increase their margins and profitability. With this offering, Infonet proves it again," he observed.

A Fully Managed Worldwide Solution

Infonet can now provide a fully managed, secure solution to its global customer base. Infonet's dedicated security team will proactively monitor customer networks and firewall applications, responding to security threats and break-in attempts in real time.

Infonet's network service is available in two options: the basic service allows access from company intranets to the Internet, as defined by customers, while barring any access from the Internet to the intranet with the exception of private electronic mail. Access from the Internet can be added as an option.

In such case, the service offers either static or dynamic authentication at both the user and workstation levels, enabling select business partners and customers into the corporate systems. "This secured Extranet feature is key to the future growth of E-Commerce," added Winther.

Infonet's pricing is based on the region in which the firewall is installed; it views Europe, the Americas and Asia-Pacific as regions. This regional concept makes it a very cost-effective solution. It allows a customer to protect multiple sites through one firewall at a fraction of the price.

If, for example, a company has six locations in Europe, the cost per location will be less than $500 while also taking full advantage of the rich feature set available with Check Point FireWall-1.

A Customer's Perspective

"Rieter Automotive, a leading manufacturer of automotive parts, headquartered in Winterthur near Zurich, Switzerland, has selected Infonet's Managed Firewall Service and has been in Beta test for a number of weeks," stated Heikki Rossi, vice president of Information Technology at Rieter. The service is planned for general release in July 1998.
