Anthony-

What an amazing standard the Phar. Co's. are held to for reporting any possible problems, including rumor/hearsay. From your article-

<Pfizer (PFE) said it is required to report every possible
case of an adverse event, and some instances are listed
in the FDA's database more than once because the
same incident may have been reported by different
people.

"We get our reports from our sales reps, individual
physicians and hospitals and we also process news
reports," said Andy McCormick, a Pfizer spokesman.

For example, the database lists four cases of blindness in
West Virginia. McCormick said the reports came from a
salesperson who heard it from an osteopath, who heard
that four men went blind while taking the drug. The
company had to file the report within 15 days, according
to FDA guidelines and couldn't find any additional
information about the situation.>

Even with this almost irrational reporting for the 2.6 million Rx's written to date there are only 101 possible tangential reports!!!
The FDA is content and believes Viagra very safe.

Nicely done! Thanks for the post!

Solid

Anthony,

With only 101 adverse effects reported out of 2.5 million Rxs, with some of these reports being duplicates, I think Viagra can now be declared a safe drug. Even if you consider that 2 million different people (rest being refills) have tried Viagra the % of adverse effects is a puny 0.005% of the population, in an age group that is well above 50 yrs. I like those odds.

Good luck.

Anthony, a prediction for EPS?

From that article:
Since Viagra hit the market in April, Pfizer said two
million men have tried the drug. Scott-Levin, a
health-care market research company, said $135.5
million of Viagra was sold by the end of May.

This quarter EPS est. is $0.44(low is $0.41, high is $0.55). Last year was $0.35 for June.

Last qtr = $0.53 with Net Income $692M. Profit Margin = 20.7%
Assume Viagra Revenues = 2 months(May and June) X $135.5M X 0.8(CF is Conservative Factor, i.e. minus advertising, April viagra sales and Rx declines, June viagra same sales volume, etc.)= $216M.

With (Profit Margin)20.7% X $216M = $44.7M additional Net Income. Assume Net Income of same as last qtr($692M) + $44.7M = $736M.
EPS = $736M/1.31B > $0.56 with greater upside(see CF and Profit Margin for Viagra same as company).

Comments and input welcome.
Thanks,
LR
