Sorry Tero, you are incorrect about the quality issues. While EFR has improved GSM, there is not one study which shows parity. If you believe this to be true, please post the source. Same goes for consumer desires, and for LCD screens. Please, I am new to this board so I don't know whether you are a serious poster, or based upon these last posts, just a Qualcomm basher. None of what you have said has been supported.

In addition... all of CDMA's claims have come true to some degree. Capacity has been shown to be 4X greater than GSM at a minimum (check Singapore). Please, substantiate any claims you make. You can check my claims on the mobiles from both Nokias and Qualcomms web pages.

To all - remember "Highlights" magazine? Goofus and Gallant each find $800 million when they start digging holes in their backyards. Goofus builds out a state-of-the-art TDMA wireless system, then offers small, neato handsets to prospective subscribers.

Gallant builds out a CDMA based system, but has to offer slightly larger handsets (without cool colors).

Guess who has a more viable business?

Jon.

Tero,

The sound quality issue has been completely changed by the EFR technology incorporated in all new GSM handsets

What about the large installed base of phones with inferior sound quality? What are they going to tell their friends?

it's the stand-by time that matters to most consumers, not the talk time; few people spend hours on mobile phone.

Stand-by time is matters most to GSM users, since the per minute charges are so much higher in the US than CDMA. CDMA users can afford to actually talk on their phones.

Meanwhile, GSM is where the handset profits are at.

If you hare handset only company, that would be an important consideration. But some companies have more to offer than handsets.

Joe
