Reed Hundt (former FCC chairman) appointed to Novell BOD

Yes its true, we finally have at least two people on the Novell BOD that understand what the Internet is and what Novell engineers do for a living.

Hundt was responsible for preventing the Telecom's from crushing the Internet with long distance interconnect tariffs. If it wasn't for him we would all be paying by the minute for internet access. He also kept the government out of tightly regulating the internet. At least that is what he claims.

Thus he ought to be able to explain to the other brain dead BOD members how the future of internet commerce in terms of US corporate involvement looks a lot like what Novell is building in the way of tools today.

I hope he can make a difference but I don't envy him sitting down to explain to Elaine Bond what Bordermanager does for corporate productivity.

Have you noticed a subtle change?
The press doesn't always refer to Novell as "a troubled software company." It has started using terms like "networking leader."

<<To those who complained that Schmidt wasn't moving fast enough to make additions to The Board. Fresh off the press. Hundt does seem to fill in some gaps on Novell's telephony end of business. Nice to see this addition ;) >>

Reed Hundt was named to the board of Ascend Communications a few weeks ago. Ascend is getting really strong in core WAN and carriers, in addition to their traditional RAS/RAC. They are kicking Cisco's ass in carrier ATM switch sales and SS7 gateway products. This is interesting that he is on both of the BODs now.
