Your "sinking ship" scenario is one of many. Another one is that these people were poor managers. I have seen many small companies grow with bad financial managers. Their incompetence is often overlooked as the companies are doing well. However, when things get tough their true worth comes out. Their departure can be seen as a positive. The new CFO has much more experience and should be considered an improvement.

jelrod3: Some investors have been calling for heads to roll. For whatever reasons, two senior players will be gone at the end of this month. I'm not sure these two executives had as much to do with research and development, strategic direction, sales, earnings, etc, as others in the company have had. So, I wouldn't characterize them as "rats" (which would indeed be good, if they are leaving) or the company as a "sinking ship"--it's we passengers/investors that are sinking as the still profitable ship sales away in the gloom. Perhaps we're the rats? Naw.
