Hi Penni,
That was a well thought out post. At the end I noticed something about the school board and materials in the schools. I desire to become more active in this area. Last year I served as a parent communicator and plan to go on further with this. My biggest problem is the presentation of the theory of evolution as fact and the only fact. This is a theory and a weak one at that. With the recent knowledge increase of DNA they have admitted that evolution is a virtual impossibility. So why not share that with the children as well and present facts, isn't that a part of education? For me I see no harm in presenting creationism as another fact of origination of the earth, I think children can think and should be given all information to form their own understanding. I do not know your position on this topic but am just sharing something on my heart because of the mention of school material.
I hope you have a great week,
Nancy

Q.) Not wanting to contaminate (again) the crypt of the coven...nor to get Garrison Keillor's, Pete Seeger's or Kenneth Patchen's noses out of joint...isn't it clear we can conclude our conflicts can by conceding that: penni is god?

A.) Sure makes sense to me.

Hi miss penni,

<< What is actually gained here by this arguing and name-calling? >>

If you show me where I was name-calling I'll apologize. Almost all of my "arguing" is using direct quotes from the Bible, and challenging people to explain them.

" I know that you have fought long and hard at school board meetings and in public forums against the infiltration of doctrine rather than facts into education. I admire you greatly for that. That is where the battle needs to be fought. This? This is cocktail chatter. A distraction. Intellectual masturbation. It has a place, but it can't RE-place. >>

I respectfully disagree miss penni. I think that the internet is the best place to tackle a subject like this without being shouted down because your view isn't popular. Anybody can jump in with their point of view in a very orderly way. One does not need to rely on personal charm or charisma to win a debate. Statements can be challenged because they are kept for years. One can't just deny saying something, because it is a matter of record. We probably have all been caught posting something that we wish we hadn't, but that's what I like about it.

Finally, I like the power of being able to link to sites that support your view. Some have trivialized this information, but why should it be any less valid than information in print? The internet is the great equalizer.

Del

Oh goodness, Penni, what is going on here? I clicked on one of your posts to talk to
you about the latest on the weather in Dallas, and saw the very elegant phrase,
"intellectual masturbation", flying out at me. I am not sure what I think about that,
because I do believe that the internet is a forum where it is exciting to talk about ideas,
and where larger exposures to issues can be had than in our busy and often narrowly
confined lives. It's neat to talk to people from all over America here, and from other
countries, as well, people I would never meet in my day-to-day, mundane world. I find
it all very stimulating, although I do believe it is possible to become so involved that real
life suffers, and that reflects a lack of balance that is unhealthy. But I definitely do
believe that open discussion is really positive, and that most people's ideas and beliefs
do evolve over time. I guess I don't think the process is as damaging as you do.

But what I really want to know is whether you have any rats in your swimming pool!!
CNN news reported today that the rats in Texas are so hot and dry that they are
invading urban flower gardens, swimming pools and everywhere else that it might be
possible to get a drink of water.

How are you doing down there? I understand that it is getting hotter, and that from the
usual weather pattern, it will probably be hot without relief until about August 24, when
the hottest part of the year usually ends gradually. Are you coping okay? Are there any
power outages, or times you are not allowed to use your air conditioning?
